solar panels for shopping centres: UK commercial installation specialists

We are a UK commercial solar specialist focused on the retail and leisure property sector: shopping centres, retail parks, covered malls, supermarkets, and the gyms, pubs and dealerships that sit alongside them. We design, install and maintain rooftop and car-park solar for landlords and operators who run these schemes, and we have built the business deliberately around this sector rather than spreading across every kind of roof in the country.

The reason for that focus is simple. A shopping centre is not a warehouse and it is not an office. The load that matters is the landlord-controlled common area, the lighting, escalators, lifts, ventilation, signage and car-park power that run through every trading hour, and getting the array right means sizing against that demand from real half-hourly meter data, not filling the roof. It means understanding split landlord-and-tenant metering, service-charge recovery and green-lease structuring, because on a multi-let scheme the question of who pays and who saves is as important as the engineering. And it means knowing how to add a solar carport over a car park, since on most retail schemes the car park is the largest untapped surface the owner controls. That is the work we do every week.

How we work

We are independent of any panel or inverter manufacturer, so we specify the hardware that suits your roof and load rather than whatever we have a quota to shift. Every proposal starts with a desk-based feasibility built from your common-area meter data and roof drawings, with an indicative system size, a generation forecast modelled in industry-standard yield software, and the full financial picture, simple payback, internal rate of return, net present value and levelised cost of energy. We would rather tell you a scheme does not stack up than sell you an array that underperforms. When the numbers do work, our engineers run a one-day structural and electrical survey and we follow with a fixed-price design.

We handle the parts of a retail project that trip up generalist installers: the G99 grid application that sets the programme timeline, the structural survey before any panel goes on a mall roof, the landlord-consent and wayleave paperwork on leased units, and the Workplace Charging Scheme application where EV charging is part of the design. For owners with portfolios across several schemes, we build one repeatable rooftop-plus-carport-plus-EV template and roll it out with standard surveys, standard hardware and a single monitoring dashboard, so a multi-site programme does not turn into a dozen bespoke engineering exercises.

Accreditation and standards

We hold the certifications a commercial solar installer should hold, and each can be checked against the issuing body. We are MCS-certified for commercial installations, which is what makes your array eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee, and our electrical work is carried out under NICEIC registration. We are members of RECC and licensed under TrustMark, and we work to the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 management standards that enterprise and franchisor procurement teams increasingly expect. We are OZEV-approved for the EV-charging side of combined projects, and a member of Solar Energy UK. Our workmanship is covered by a 10-year insurance-backed warranty, so the guarantee stands even in the unlikely event the company does not.

Why this matters for a retail scheme

A shopping centre is a high-traffic, brand-sensitive asset, and a poor install does more than waste money: it disrupts trading, annoys tenants and dents the sustainability story the owner is trying to tell investors. The commercial solar market has its share of operators who quote a low per-kW rate, fit whatever panels are cheapest, and disappear once the array is energised. We are the opposite of that. We are transparent about cost, honest about whether a roof suits solar, careful to work around your trading pattern, and accountable for the array's performance through annual maintenance and round-the-clock remote monitoring. The accreditations above are the floor, not the differentiator. The difference is that we know this sector, and we will tell you the truth about your scheme before you spend a penny.
